Despite injury-enforced absence over the past two weeks, Fulham striker Pavel Pogrebnyak has confirmed that talks over a new contract with the club have taken place and that the Russian will stay in England.

The former VFB Stuttgart forward has been a revelation in England since his January move, scoring five goals in his opening three games, including the winner in the local derby against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

His good form has created interest, however, and Aston Villa have proved the most vociferous. Manager, Alex McLeish, sang the praises of Pogrebnyak before claiming he's made moves to sign him before.

Despite the palpable interest, though, Pogrebnyak told sport.mail.ru that contract negotiations are already under way at Craven Cottage.

"Yes, the negotiations about my contract with Fulham have already begun," said the former Zenit striker.

"My agent has already talked to the management of the club. I think there's a big chance that I will stay in England.

"Me, the coach and the management, we are all solid on the question regarding my future."
