Can we all agree that last years match with Sheffield Wednesday was a debacle? It was an away fixture to a club in the Championship, not something you want in the best of times. To compound this, Dembele and Dempsey were both gone and the squad was severely lacking for depth. This year the club is in a much better place. They have depth. Enough depth such that they could realistically start an entire new eleven than played Sunday versus Arsenal. That's not something I remember being possible in the past. In fact, that's the almost the line up I'd like to see:
I actually don't think that is too different than what Jol will throw out there. I'm not sure about Ashkan Dejagah, I don't know if he's healthy or not, but if he is, I'd like to see him out there on the right. If not, it might be interesting to see Mesca. Kerim Frei is my pick for the left, but I wouldn't be upset to see Alex Kacaniklic. Bryan Ruiz and Rodallega seem like locks to start. The defense is probably where I'm most wrong. If Fernando Amorebieta is healthy, I'd start him at CB and shift Hughes out to RB. But if he's not 100% I might save him for Saturday and go with what I've got here. Grimmer has been impressive for the U21 squad, and it would make me happy to see him get a run out. I think this lineup with a bench of Riise, Hangeland, Ethridge, Bent, Mesca, Kacaniklic, and Sidwell should be enough to get things done.
That being said, I really know nothing about Burton Albion at all. I never even knew they existed until they got drawn with Fulham. Perhaps they are world beaters this season. It's unlikely, but you never know. If you want to know more about the club, Fulham have a good preview on their website.
I don't believe the game is being shown on TV anywhere. So I'll be following along on Fulham's excellent Match Centre, and using the mobile app to listen to audio if it's available. As always stick around and share your thoughts as we hope for a Fulham victory. COYW!
