Fulham are set to sign former Dnipro midfielder Derek Boateng on a free transfer, according to Goal.com.
The club have been heavily linked with the Ghana international over the past two transfer windows and have, reportedly, seen a deal break down at the last minute on both occasions.
In January, a deal fell through after Fulham raised concerns over the legitimacy of the player's contract with former club Dnipro, but Martin Jol has kept an eye on the player ever since.
And now, the transfer is apparently all but complete. Boateng and his representatives were guests of the club when Fulham hosted Reading at the beginning of May and the two parties have since thrashed out a contract.
It means the 30 year-old could arrive at Craven Cottage as soon as next Monday, highlighting Jol's eagerness to start rebuilding his team with immediate effect.
But the news will inevitably be met with much distrust after previous, Derek Boateng-related news outbreaks. He's become a regular feature of the transfer gossips columns and one more failure to finalise the deal would come as no surprise.
Regardless, as a free agent, there would seem to be little risk in moving for a player that comes with reasonable pedigree. Capped 46 times, the central midfielder is full of energy and has an enviable work rate - both traits that would complement our current crop.
However, he's a player that is slow to adapt, having played all across Europe for eight different clubs and yet only excelling in a couple of those stints. He was superb with AIK in Sweden, and impressed with Beitar Jerusalem and Getafe.
Elsewhere, though, he has failed to find his feet and, now that he has reached his thirties, there is not long left for Boateng to prove himself. Fulham could well bring the best out of the player, as we have done with many others in the past, but it could also prove to be a transfer fraught with risk.
First, though, we would have to wait and see if it actually goes through.
