This was a very entertaining game to watch. The game though was decided by a controversial goal by Tom Huddlestone to give Spurs the 2-1 victory. Fulham's unbeaten streak has been broken at home at Craven Cottage.
The first half started slow for Fulham. Tottenham Hotspur carried the play for the first 20 minutes, and looked like the better side early. Fulham would change the pace of the game shortly afterwards. In the 23rd minute, Danny Murphy made a nice pass inside the box to Aaron Hughes. His header unfortunately missed the net. Five minutes later Fulham had another chance. In the 28th minute, Carlos Salcido had a nice long distance shot that just missed the net.
The good play for Fulham would pay off in the 30th minute. Clint Dempsey made a tremendous pass inside the box to Diomansy Kamara, who shot the ball past Gomes to give Fulham the lead. Fulham at this point were ahead 1-0.
Unfortunately, Fulham fans weren't able to enjoy the lead too long. One minute later Rafael Van der Vaart chipped a ball that hit the bar and landed right to Roman Pavlyuchenko. He was able to slam it into the net, and the game was tied 1-1.
Fulham would have one more decent chance in the half by Diomansy Kamara. His shot from distance was nicely saved by Gomes.
As I stated this was an entertaining game and the first half had some great action. The half ended with Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur tied 1-1.
The second half started with some decent pressure from Fulham. However, Tottenham Hotspur were again taking control of the beginning of a half. A big blow for Fulham was when Danny Murphy went off which looked like an injury. Without him in midfield, Fulham were starting to lose control of the game.
The big moment of the match came in the 64th minute. Tom Huddlestone had a great shot from outside the box that got by Mark Schwarzer. However, the assistant referee called offsides apparently on William Gallas. The goal was initially disallowed. Then, Tom Huddlestone approached the referee about the decision. Then, the referee and the referee's assistant talked. The referee then reversed the initial decision, and gave the goal to Spurs. Tottenham Hotspur were then up 2-1.
Fulham would have a few more chances to equalize. The best chance came in the 83rd minute. Stephen Kelly sent a nice pass to Kamara inside the box, and his shot unfortunately went over the net.
Fulham were not able to put any more pressure on Spurs the rest of the match. The game ended withTottenham Hotspur winning 2-1.
This was a tough way for Fulham to get their first loss. I am sure this controversial goal will be talked for some time by Fulham fans. However, I have to give credit to Spurs as they played a great match and probably deserved the win.
