Senderos Looks Ahead

Phillipe Senderos, despite the most turbulent of starts to his Fulham career, is already turning out to be quite the parting present from Roy Hodgson. The Swiss central defender has taken no time at all to establish himself in the side and the potential he is showing is unmistakably making Aaron Hughes and Brede Hangeland sweat; just a little.

And, as the games have been coming thick and fast for Senderos, it couldn't be more apt that the 26 year old will more-than-likely face his former club in the final game of the season, at home to Arsenal.

However, you wouldn't begrudge Senderos looking back on his North London days with a hint of contempt, as the defender managed to stamp down a definitive first team place in his early days, before he eventually found himself out of favour and out of the team.

There is no such harboured conflict with Senderos though. The former Milan and Everton loanee was quick to sing the praises of current Arsenal manager, Arsène Wenger, and also claimed there was nothing to prove after a slightly bitter departure from the Emirates.

"I don't think I have anything to prove, I had some great years at Arsenal. I won the title, the Cup and made the Champions League Final," Senderos told fulhamfc.com.

"There are some great things to look back on when I've finished with football. You always have a lot of competition at a club like Arsenal and before my contract finished there I went on loan to AC Milan.

"I owe a lot to Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, who brought me over from Switzerland to play in the Champions League for one of the best clubs in the world.

"So I don't have anything to prove but I'd like to prove to myself that I can play in the Premiership. That's my personal goal so I'm really pleased that I'm back at full fitness and back in contention - if I can get another game before the end of the season it's a bonus."

Modest yet pleasing words from the man who has had it far from easy over the past few seasons.
