Martin Jol wants to make up for the losses of Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey over the summer by bringing in quality replacements when the January transfer window opens.
Fulham have already been linked with, amongst others, Andrey Arshavin, Vegard Forren and Darren Bent, and Jol has admitted that he is looking to strengthen his side.
He was keen to stress, however, that his hunt centres around only the highest calibre of player, in particular ones that can help the Whites climb up the table and push such heavyweights as Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
"It's a cliche but we always look for players who can strengthen our team," Jol told the Fulham Chronicle.
"I want to build a top team and that needs a very good footballing side that can compete with the likes of Spurs, Arsenal and Everton."
However, with the late loss of both Dembele and Dempsey in August, Jol wants his all transfer deals wrapped up sooner rather than later.
"That would be fantastic because then you can strengthen your squad," he said.
"If you don't know what will happen three days before the end of the transfer window then you've got a problem like we had.
"But nothing is what it seems because after that we've been doing better than before."
