Hangeland opening new deal talks

The Fulham Chronicle is reporting that sought-after centre-back, Brede Hangeland, has began talks with Fulham over a new contract.

The Norwegian defended has been a vital cog in the Fulham works over the last 4 years and has proved himself to be one of the most reliable, competent and solid central defenders in the Premier League.

As such, many clubs have declared their interest in Hangeland but the club have stood firm and now, seemingly, the former Copenhagen player wants to repay the loyalty that Fulham have shown him.

Having accepted an extension to his contract in 2009, amid rumours of interest from Arsenal, Hangeland's deal runs out in 18 months time and Jol has expressed his interest in tying his best players down in the long term - namely Hangeland, Clint Dempsey, Danny Murphy and Andrew Johnson.

"At any club you want to keep your best players, and that is what we are trying to do," said Jol.
