Simpson eager on West London

The Chronicle are reporting that Fulham are leading the chase for Newcastle United full back Danny Simpson, with the defender stalling over the offer of a new contract.

Supposed interest from Martin Jol has been mentioned at various points over the summer but the link seems to be firming with Simpson set to consider his options when he returns from holiday in America. It's thought that the right back still believes that staying at St James' Park is an option yet, according to a source speaking to the Chronicle, London is a place that is certainly appealing to him.

"Danny will see where the land lies when he returns from holiday," said the source. "If he does leave Newcastle then London would be a real attraction for him."

As a pacey right back, the former Manchester United youth product would add extra dynamism to an otherwise stagnant position in the Fulham line up. Over the years, Chris Baird, Stephen Kelly and Zdenek Grygera have been the right back incumbents. While they're all defensively competent, they are not known for their progressive qualities. Jol would see Simpson as the perfect type of player to add to his attacking philosophy.

The Dutchman will face competition, however, with Queens Park Rangers following his fortunes too. The newly appointed Chris Hughton at Norwich could also threaten any deal Jol has planned.
