Fulham highlight - The great escape of 2008

There have been many memories over the years that have evoked some quite wonderful emotions in the hearts of Fulham fans. The bitter-sweet Europa League journey which went all the way to Hamburg and, most unfortunately, back again, was a campaign to cherish for many-a-year.

But what few consider is the fact that we could, quite plausibly, never have been there. Two seasons before that, in December, we were fighting for our Premier League lives and were, undoubtedly, losing the battle. Roy Hodgson was appointed but, in truth, his impact wasn't as instant as some optimists were hoping for. Instead, on 26th April 2008, at half time, 2-0 down to Manchester City, Fulham were mathematically relegated.

Something was stirred, though, not least in the minds of Danny Murphy and Diomansy Kamara. The latter led the revolution, twisting with his back to goal to drive the ball past Joe Hart from 8 yards. When Danny Murphy was awarded a penalty barely 10 minutes later, the impossible seemed possible yet again. Quite unbelievably, he missed, but he was never going to fail with the follow up. Now level pegging, technically, safety wasn't beyond us, but 3 points would put Premier League survival into our own, nervous hands. Step up, Kamara, to rouse the away end at the City of Manchester Stadium into raptures.

The rest, as they say, is history. But without it, maybe history would never have been made.
