Dimitar Berbatov is undergoing a medical at Fulham ahead of a move from Manchester United, while Kieran Richardson is in talks with the club after a fee was agreed with Sunderland.
Berbatov has been loosely linked with Fulham over the summer, with most seeing his ties with manager Martin Jol as a particularly persuasive factor. More persuasive this time, however, was the striker's wife, who was keen to remain in England, prompting Berbatov to turn down contracts from both Juventus and Fiorentina. There was a brief scare when SkyBet suspended betting on the Bulgarian joining West Ham United, but Martin Jol has confirmed the player is at Motspur Park after a fee of around £4 million was mooted. Pending medical results, the deal should go through at some point today.
Meanwhile, Jol has confirmed that contract talks have opened with Sunderland's Richardson, with a price of around £2 million already agreed. He is not, as many believed, seen as a direct replacement for Mousa Dembele, but he will challenge Alex Kacaniklic for his wing role while also providing cover at left back for John Arne Riise.
