Mystery free agent should arrive next week

Fulham manager Martin Jol has admitted that a move has been lined up for a mystery central midfielder, who will arrive at some point over the next week.

There has been a crisis in personnel in the middle of the park over recent weeks after a disappointing transfer deadline day and some unfortunate injuries to Mahamadou Diarra and Kieron Richardson, among others.

As such, talk grew of Jol making another delve into the free agent market after the initial signing of Giorgos Karagounis and the Dutch manager admitted that was a distinct possibility.

Now, though, he has gone as far to suggest a deal for a "central midfielder from abroad" could be tied up in the coming days.

"We're trying to do something in the next couple of days but not with Nigel Reo-Coker or Owen Hargreaves," Jol told fulhamfc.com.

"It will be a central midfielder from abroad and we will have to test him to see if he's fit and then we will talk to him. I'm confident of having the deal sorted next week."
