The club confirmed over the weekend that a loan deal for Bryan Ruiz to join Levante UD is very close. It's up to FIFA to approve that deal, but that is expected to come today. Ruiz isn't the only attacking midfielder set to leave however. Both Chris David and Thomas Eisfeld are expected to go as well. Chris David will be joining FC Twente on a permanent deal, while Eisfeld will be joining VfL Bochum on a loan.
This sets up an interesting quandary. Kit has been setting up the team mostly as a diamond. The diamond requires a number 10 in the CAM position. However, three players who can play that position are on the way out. We've learned that Ross McCormack can play that position, but he's MUCH better when used as a forward. So who plays as the CAM? Alex Kacaniklic can, but he's much better running at players versus creating. The same can be said for George Williams. Seko Fofana is probably naturally a CAM, but he's only 19 and hasn't been used in that position much this year.
Does this mean there might be a formation change? Ross McCormack can also play wide in a 4-3-3. George Williams is a wide player. Alex Kacaniklic is a good wide player. Patrick Roberts is on the bench. Adam Taggart can play wide. Is this something that we might see more of?
