Forgive me for being slow. I’ve been battling a horrible cold, I took a trip to Vegas, we had a big holiday you may be aware of in the US, and I’m trying to adopt a dog. But I didn’t forget about your ratings, so here they are.
Starters
David Button - Community 6.32, WhoScored 6.05
All but three of you rated Button a six or a seven. It’s hard to rate a goalkeeper when he only faces two shots on target and one of them goes in. Perhaps he could have done better, but an average rating is pretty fair.
Ryan Fredericks - Community 6.44, WhoScored 6.28
Again you agree with WhoScored. Fredericks didn’t really do anything bad, but he didn’t do anything very great either.
Tomas Kalas - Community 6.40, WhoScored 5.81
I thought this was Kalas’ worst performance of the year so far. He’d been pretty rock solid up to this point, so it was odd to see him struggle. I think a few of you may have let his past performances color your rating this time as nearly half of you rated him seven or better.
Ragnar Sigurdsson - Community 6.32, WhoScored 6.86
He was by far the better of the two center backs in this match, but he didn’t do anything particularly noteworthy. He also didn’t really make any big mistakes which is probably the more important thing for a centerback to do.
Scott Malone - Community 7.32 (MOTM), WhoScored 7.41 (MOTM)
Scott Malone continues to impress. Is it the young Ryan Sessegnon pushing him? Does he just fit into Slavisa’s system really well? Who knows, but I’m certainly not complaining.
Stefan Johansen - Community 7.20, WhoScored 7.39
I’ve quite liked what I’ve seen from Johansen since he’s been starting. He has enough defensive chops to not leave McDonald on an island, but his passing is much more dangerous and varied than someone like Scott Parker. He had four key passes in this match, and if it wasn’t for Malone’s goal he would have been the man of the match.
Kevin McDonald - Community 6.32, WhoScored 6.10
Wednesday’s strategy kind of made him a non factor in most of this match. He did what he was supposed to but not much more.
Tom Cairney - Community 6.84, WhoScored 6.27
Only one shot (on target), only one key pass, and only one dribble. No attempted crosses. Only one attempted through ball. No attempted long passes. Dispossessed twice and had three unsuccessful touches. A low (for him) pass completion rate. Only one defensive action. Tom Cairney is usually good. He wasn’t good in this game. The community’s score is quite flattering to him in my opinion.
Sone Aluko - Community 6.80, WhoScored 6.63
This was a very standard Aluko performance. Leading the team in shots (but none on target) . Taking players on (three successful dribbles). Leading the team in fouls drawn (three). Passing well and even contributing a key pass. Yet very little to show for it.
Lucas Piazon - Community 6.08, WhoScored 6.32
Not a great game for him. He had an off target shot and a key pass. He provided a couple of defensive actions and completed one long pass. Other than that, he didn’t do much at all. It was no wonder he was the first player subbed off
Chris Martin - Community 6.08, WhoScored 6.26
I continue to feel for Martin. He does a lot of little things to help the team win, but just doesn’t get rewarded with much in the way of results. He easily could of scored and had an assist here. He drew a couple of fouls, and probably could have drawn more.
Substitutes
Floyd Ayite - Community 6.36, WhoScored 6.12
Scott Parker - Community 6.65, WhoScored 6.18
Denis Odoi - Community 6.62, WhoScored 6.41
Parker and Odoi were basically like for like subs that are possibly a little more offense minded than the players they replaced. Neither of them provided to be much of an improvement. I thought Floyd Ayite was quite good in his short time though. He took two shots and drew two fouls in just over 30 minutes. I think he is probably a better long term option than Piazon.
Sheffield Wednesday Players

Fernando Forestieri was the easy choice. I’m not exactly sure what people saw in Barry Bannan, but he game in a close second.
Let us know if you enjoyed this, and how we could improve it in the future. We’re going to continue to collect this ratings throughout the year, and hopefully use them to have a community ranking of players at the end of the season. Please do take the time to rate the players after each game, the more responses the better it gets.
