With the news of Moussa Dembele’s departure from the club at the end of his contract, Joining Scottish champions Celtic.

As fans we must look towards the future, We need to address the underlying question are we a club shrouded with misfortune? Or a club in decline?

Who will replace Dembele?

With Benfica making Kostas Mitroglou loan deal, permanent. A deal that will see the Greek Forward remain in Portugal for the next 4 seasons. Supplying the club with funds to make additional signings.

Would it be feasible to splash out solely on just one player? Whilst it is evident that the team is in need of a complete overhaul.

As Dembele departs the club, Fulham have lost a proven goal scorer in the league that also supplied the forward line with much needed pace. Slavisa Jokanovic should look to replace Dembele with a like for like striker with similar traits.

As discussed on the latest Cottage Talk Podcast episode between Russ Goldman and Mike Gregg, bringing to light the rumours that have been circulating around Fulham competing with Newcastle United for Dwight Gayle with a supposed fee being around the £11 million mark.

Crystal Palace have even deployed Gayle out on the Left Wing. Seeing the 25 year old produce a Man Of The match performance netting twice, Including a 25 yard Free Kick in the 2-1 victory over Stoke.

However reports suggest that the Palace striker is to undergo a medical at St James Park, in the coming days. Which may see Fulham miss out on the Premier League player.

Can Fulham still compete for signings?

Maybe Fulham no longer have the pulling power of the bigger clubs in league and may well of lost the attraction, Being seen as a club in decline rather than Premier League ambitions.

Thomas Erie of Cottagers Confidential, recently suggested a different approach to myself of scouting the lower leagues in search for new signings. With Nicky Ajose of Swindon Town being the topic of conversation.

Unfortunately the club missed out on the chance of signing the striker. Who has recently signed for Charlton Athletic, After scoring 24 goals in the Sky Bet League 1 last season.

I am in unison with the idea of attracting one of top scorers of a lower division to fill the vacancy left by the Frenchman.

Who should the club sign in Dembele's absence?
