Well, just as I was about to get in bed and call it a night, Saturday evening erupted into transfer wildfire.
News has surfaced that Fulham have taken former QPR midfielder, Ale Faurlin on trial with reports suggesting that terms have been agreed on a contract, should the classy midfielder prove his fitness levels. Despite, Faurlin playing his best football at our rivals, QPR he would be an impressive capture for the club. There is no doubting the Argentine's ability, but unfortunately he has struggled with several knee injuries which has stopped him from playing at the highest standard in the English tier for a bigger club. With Faurlin, I would expect him to easily slot into our midfield as a pioneer of the philosophy that Jokanovic wants to implement - a possession heavy and patience style of play. With Faurlin alongside Cairney and Lasse Vigen Christensen, an energetic yet creative midfield system could be created.
But, just like last summer, Fulham have been linked with a move for Wolves anchor man, Kevin McDonald. The Scottish midfielder would certainly be a quality addition for the side, adding some much needed bite into midfield. With Scott Parker ageing, McDonald would fill the void without any troubles. With McDonald anchoring the midfield and protecting our fragile back four, Fulham could see their total goals conceded greatly reduced, While, the reports states that the clubs have agreed a fee it will be interesting to see if this story develops further, or if it's just a re-hash of the rumour from last summer. Rumours would suggest the fee would be in the region of £1.5-2m, which would be a bargain considering the valuations of some players in the Championship this summer.
With Denis Odoi expected to complete his transfer in the next 24 hours, Fulham could make it six new faces through the door should Faurlin and McDonald also sign on the dotted line soon. On the back of another victory in pre-season, the future is looking bright under Jokanovic, with the club wanting at least 9 new players signed before the end of the window.
