In the quest for a Ross McCormack replacement, Fulham have been looking for Championship-proven strikers. According to sources, Fulham are looking at Huddersfield hitman Nahki Wells and Bolton forward Zach Clough. Both have scored plenty of goals on teams that, for the most part, have been towards the bottom end of the table, Huddersfield finished mid-table last year and Bolton were relegated.
Nahki Wells: 8 million €
Appearances: 39 starts, 5 subs
WhoScored Rating: 6.79
Nahki Wells is a Bermudian striker currently playing for Huddersfield Town in the Championship. He has an impressive goal scoring record, and now Fulham look to sign him as Ross McCormack's replacement. Wells may be looking for a better chance of promotion to the Premier League, and that chance may be at Fulham. We have already seen how Jokanovic can attract players to Fulham, and he can win big games. The win over Newcastle undoubtedly impressed targets, and may even have attracted some to the club. Wells is not big, 5'7", so he plays his game on the ground. He has good pace and very good game knowledge. He positions himself well and is a clinical finisher. Nahki would do well behind Matt Smith or paired along side Sone Aluko. I think his price tag is a bit high, but I would not object if Fulahm paid the price to get him in the door before Saturday.
Zach Clough: 3 million €
Appearances: 25 starts, 3 subs
WhoScored Rating: 6.58
Zach Clough is currently playing for Bolton in League 1. However, his time may be coming to an end as he was left out of the match-day squad last week. Reports then surfaced that Fulham were interested in acquiring his services. Last winter, Bristol City had a bid accepted, but Clough turned them down. This window, it is said, he is looking to move back into the Championship to a club with high ambitions. Clough plays the same way all of the forwards we have been linked with. He like the ball on the ground and has good speed. His technical ability and shooting is what makes him an exciting prospect. Clough is still young, and could be a bargain if we manage to sign him. I think he would not be our first choice, probably more of a third or fourth choice super-sub, but he would definitely have the ability to make regular starts if he progresses.
In conclusion, I would like to see Fulham sign Clough and use the rest of the money on other targets. I don't think Wells is the best value for our money, but if we did sign him, I would not be dissappointed. With the money we have I think that we could afford to sign; however, I still believe that Nemanja Nikolic is our man.
