Ryan Sessegnon signed his first professional contract with Fulham on Wednesday afternoon, despite interest from some of the Premier League’s top clubs. The 17-year-old phenom excelled during his breakthrough season for Fulham, impressing many with his brilliant performances at such a young age.

Sessegnon expressed his delight at signing a contract with the club to fulhamfctv. “I’m excited to see what’s in front of me at this club, hopefully we can all push on now. Last year I got a lot of opportunities from the Gaffer, and I just want to continue that,” Sessegnon said.

Ryan’s twin brother Steven also signed a new contract that keeps him at the club until 2020. Steven and Ryan are both locals and academy products, having grown up in Roehampton in southwest London. The twins joined Fulham in 2008, and have taken the club by storm since.

Ryan’s first-team debut came in August in a 1-1 away draw against Leeds, and his first goal for the club came just four days later against Cardiff. Ryan notably bagged a brace in a man-of-the-match display away at St. James’ Park, propelling the Whites to a famous 3-1 win.

In recent weeks rumors had swirled that Ryan was close to signing for Tottenham Hotspur, but Sessegnon instead confirmed his future at Craven Cottage. Fulham’s first signing of the summer may prove to be their most important, as Sessegnon has the potential to be one of the best players in the Championship next season.
