Updated - Is Dempsey on his way back to Fulham?

It's rumored to have been possible for some time. Then it showed up as a done deal on an obscure website. Now US Journalists are saying the same thing.

The story showed up today on Zapsportz.com. You can forgive me for being a little skeptical, I mean the site is name Zapsportz. However when Sounder at Heart posted the story Taylor Twellman, an American soccer journalist with pretty good sources in MLS said this:

Does this mean it's true? Hardly. But this does put the odds much higher than they were previously.

What would a move like this mean to the current Fulham squad? Clint Dempsey isn't a guy who can excel at hold up play like Berbatov, so he's not the answer at striker. Meulensteen has shown a propensity for attacking midfielders, yet we've not seen Bryan Ruiz? Does the mean that Ruiz is out? And even if you sell Ruiz, Dempsey will leave again at the beginningof March, so what's your attacking midfield option after that? Does it go back to Karagounis and Kasami with some vague hope that Chris David might make an appearance?

I don't think I have the answers to any of these questions, but it will be interesting to see how it all works out.

Update December 16th

Now both the Guardian and the Telegraph are reporting it.  Now with speculation on Ruiz and Berbatov. It's becoming much more apparent to me that this is probably going to happen. My long weird relationship with Clint Dempsey continues on.
